Code of Conduct
Sprout Academy · Spring 2026
Respect Everyone
We are a community of learners of all skill levels. Treat fellow students, instructors, and staff with respect — in person and online. No put-downs, no mocking mistakes, no exclusion.
Safety First
Robots and electronics can cause injury or damage if misused. Always follow instructor safety guidelines. Keep fingers, hair, and loose clothing away from moving robot parts. Never bypass safety systems.
Take Care of Equipment
The robots, sensors, grippers, and computers are shared equipment. Use them carefully, clean up your workspace, and report any damage to an instructor immediately. Students may be asked to cover damage from careless use.
Come Prepared
Review the class materials on the website before each session. Bring a notebook,好奇心 (curiosity), and a willingness to try new things — even when they don't work the first time.
Ask Questions Freely
There are no stupid questions here. If you're stuck, confused, or something doesn't make sense — ask. Use the Q&A section on your class page, or raise your hand in person. Asking helps everyone learn.
Let Others Learn
When you finish an exercise, help nearby students who are still working. Explaining something is one of the best ways to deepen your own understanding. Teamwork makes the whole cohort stronger.
Own Your Mistakes
Bugs in code and wiring mistakes are normal — they're part of learning. Don't hide mistakes or blame the equipment. Tell an instructor what happened so we can all learn from it together.
No Unsupervised Access
Do not use robot equipment outside of class hours unless an instructor is present. The lab is not open for unsupervised robot use. Please respect this rule for everyone's safety.
Use Technology Appropriately
Computers and the internet are tools for learning robotics and programming. Games, social media, and non-class content should wait until after class. If you're unsure, ask first.
Have Fun & Build Things
This is the most important rule. The goal is to build real things, solve real problems, and walk away with something you made. Enjoy the process. The robots are just the工具 (tools) — the real outcome is what you learn.
What Happens if Rules are Broken?
Most issues are resolved with a conversation. If behavior continues, instructors will:
- A private conversation with the student to understand what is going on
- A note to parents/guardians if the behavior affects others
- A temporary break from hands-on activities if safety is involved
- In serious or repeated cases, dismissal from the program without refund
Our goal is always to help students succeed — not to punish them. Reach out to an instructor any time you or your student is struggling with something.
By submitting an enrollment, parent/guardian agrees that the student will follow this Code of Conduct during all Sprout Academy sessions and online activities.
